Many of the Sunshine State’s assets are well known: beaches galore, a multitude of tourist attractions, and a subtropical climate with warm summers and mild winters. Wander a bit off the beaten path and you’ll find that Florida’s charms come with some unexpected surprises. Cowboy culture is big here, and the Arcaria All-Florida Championship Rodeo Association hosts annual events such as the Tater Hill Best of the Ranches Rodeo and the Bull-A-Rama Extravaganza. The Trail of Florida’s Indian Heritage organization keeps the traditions of the state’s oldest residents alive by promoting its many Native American sites, such as the Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park in Tallahassee and the Indian Temple Mounds Museum in Fort Walton Beach. Bok Tower Gardens, a national historic landmark founded by Pulitzer prize winning philanthropist Edward Bok, offers a peaceful oasis with acres of towering palms, oaks and pine trees, a magnificent neo-Gothic tower housing a 60 bell carillon, and a menagerie of native wildlife. Florida Hospital Celebration Health is a 112-bed acute care facility in Disney’s planned community, but in true Florida style, it more closely resembles a Mediterranean resort than a hospital. It has been ranked one of America’s best Hospitals by “US News and World Report.”
