This was my worst assignment ever. The facility wants to become a magnet but I actual feared loosing my liscense. Worked ICU, was hired for MICU when I showed up totally changed my contract and was actually threatened. This facility is notorious for "suddendly" firing travelers(eight weeks into my contract-14 fired). Mangers are mean and feel that as a traveler you have no rights, if your contract says every other weekend fine, but we say every weekend-if you want your actual two days of orientation then you are too weak of a nurse. I prayed every day to hopefully not get sick or injuried in Arizona because if this is the best in the state I am up the creek without a paddle and would rather die then be sent here for care. Hospital is in a bad part of town, I don't drive but walk and ride the bus to work. I was sent home at 3am despite there were 8 nurses on thier fifth shift for the week, bus service does not run for another 2.5 hrs and I only cash I carry is $1.25 for bus fare. House Super told me I had better walk fast, a nurse I worked with offered to drive me home and she told her no one could leave the facilty. When taxi vocher was brought up she stated that they were only for the needed-yeah this place totally follows the philosphy of the Good Samaritian.

this was a pretty easy assignmnet, stayed only three months, woked on their tele units ( more med surg patients than tele)work was at times very busy but its all about time management there. staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, had a great time working the night shift (i believe the hospital is made up of mostly travelers...that should tell you something). as for the care, i would not go there if i were really sick, they have too many inexperienced nurses, their most seasoned nurse has only about 1.5 yrs experience. unfortunately i witnessed a few codes there and the response time of the staff was shockinly slow because of the disorganization and franlky staff not really wanting to get involved because of fear. with all of that they are more concerned with obtaining magnet status, they have a long way to go. on the plus side the cafe food is great and stayed open 24 hrs needless to say i gained a little weight!
