Worked for this company for more than 6 years. No problems with them. Had the same recruiter for the entire time, very excellent recruiter.......she definitely made the difference. Steadily increasing rates of pay. Had a contract renewal between the company and a facility while working on the contract, the increase in pay was given to me........showed up in my paycheck one week.
Great 401K plan, received paychecks on time, travel on time, wonderful apartments when I was taking housing, received subsidity on time and enough to cover expenses incurred.
Never felt like I was a number to the company. Everyone always nice with talking to them.
Offer free continuing education online courses when you work with the company, and that helps a lot.

Feels impersonal, red tape increasing

Overall my 4 years with American Mobile have been good. I have never had trouble getting 12h days in or near a location I wanted , the hospitals have been better than average, and the housing has been nice. Over the last year, however there is more and more red tape, new paperwork, background checks etc which delay when they will give me my new home address. It feels like information vital to my comfort for planning is held hostage by "we need this form, exam, application, fingerprint, blood, tooth , nail, etc before you can receive your address" The last minute address is aggravating for multiple reasons but mostly I like to check out the new home even its via computer. Six days before my last assignment my recruiter calls to tell me they can't complete the background check in time as planned and the next orientation for this hospital is not for two more weeks. "Where will I live I ask?" "Don't you have any place to go?" she says. Hmmm... This is getting ridiculous I think.

In San Diego their headquarters, they sent me to
a different apartment complex then promised (the one in their brochure) because of my pets? I have never had pets in my life.
On my second contract in San Diego they let the client out of the 13 week contract after 7 weeks and tried to evicte me. (Why do nurses have to sign a contract with AMH if the clients can opt out at ant time without notice or penalty?)
THE WORST
In Los Angeles
The crappy apartment in a crappy part of town (Downey) was 30MILES from the hospital.
30 Miles on the 710 Freeway (voted worst in the U.S. due to all the truck traffic from port of Long Beach)
30 Miles Through Compton, Watts, and South Central in the middle of the night) check a map.
There was a nice aprtment accross the street from the hospital where travelers from other companies got to stay. I am sure there were literaly a MILLION apartments between mine and the hospital.
3 contracts, 4 recruiters can you say turnover?

Recruiter lied about my having a position, then found out I did not have the position and in the meantime I turned down another assignment
|
|
Tammy Miller was my recruiter and a very poor one. She said I had a position and then said that I did not meet the criteria of 1 year of service (which I was one month short). I turned down another assignment and then found out I did not have a job with American Mobile. Another agency had the same contract and said the hospital had filled the position. Tammy Miller evidently jumped the gun and then lied about it. I'd heard she was no longer with them but I would never travel with any of American Mobiles other companies, as I had trouble with O'Grady Peyton also

Recruiter always trying to sweet talk you into or out of something. Had to give up longevity bonuses for "free" private housing...or pay for it myself ($300/month). Lots of assignments to choose from, just really low pay. Average $25/hr.

there clinical nurse liason
|

i worked for amh for 2 assignments. the first one was great and i extended twice with them ( i am an er nurse) the 2nd assignment was horrible. i had a patient in the er with dementia and he walked out of the er and police brought him back no problem right? not on your life! hospital said i falsified my documents on my charting in reference to doing 15 minute checks on the patient yada yada...mind you this was the night shift and we were very very busy and 2 rns short anyway i was there scapegoat. they called amh and said they wanted to end my contract because ot he reasons i mentioned. the clinical liason was rude and pretty much called me a liar and told me to get a nursing magazine and find another travel company...which i did with no problem. i felt that i had noone on my side except my recruter which i the longrun did not help. i would never recommend this company to anyone

THIS IS MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT AND OF COURSE THE RECRUITER KNEW THAT!! I THINK SHE IS PRETTY GOOD, BUT I TOLD HER I DIDN'T WANT A REHAB POSITION AND SHE DIDN'T LISTEN TO THAT, HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE NCLEX WAS EITHER, I FEEL THEY DON'T LISTEN TO YOUR NEEDS WHEN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CONTRACT, NEITHER DOES MY NEW RECRUITER (OLD ONE GOT PROMOTED). THEY BOTH CALL EVERY WEEK TO 2 WEEKS, I THINK I GOT JIPPED WITH THE APARTMENT BECAUSE I HAVE A FRIEND WITH ME, PLUS I REQUESTED SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE AND THEY SAID NO. QUALITY MANAGEMENT SEEMS TO LOSE MY PAPERWORK A LOT ALWAYS HAVE TO REFAX IT!!! PAY SUCKS!!!!I HAD A PROBLEM AT MY APARTMENT COMPLEX WITH PEOPLE DEALING DRUGS AND THEY WERE RIGHT ON TOP OF IT! I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS COMPANY!

It's all about the recruitor and what you are looking for in a company. I like to go to popular areas and the best teaching facilities. They produce tons of contracts. You have to stick to your guns and link up with a recruitor who knows your must-haves and can get them for you. I really have had no major complaints. They've always rushed to fix any housing problems. I only wish their bennies were better.

I have done 5 contracts with this company. My recruiter Jennifer has been excellent. I was moved almost immediately when my housing in New Hampshire was sub-par. I have heard many complaints from travellers that they were unhappy because their recruiter kept changing. I have had the same one all along. I only have a couple complaints. Their pay on some contracts is very low and they will not negotiate wage with me. They are large and cold as a company. There are few "perks" and endless redtape. I am currently considering other companies, but the more I look the more I appreciate what I have.

recruiters can learn a thing about professionalism
|

I did 2 short assignments one 13 and an extension of 6 wks in the same place different unit. My 1st recruiter was awesome and she "left" hopefully some place better, then I got a new person, that's when things got bad, becareful of the perky ones, that all I have to say, she would take 3-4 days to get back to me via email or voicemail, she would lie and no move on pay unless you gave up something, she would offer these job in god awlful places, I even sent her a couple of article from newpapers about these hopsital that shse said she got great reviews from. IN the end I moved to a different travle company, they paid more and benefits were better, when I email her and told her I got the quickest call back 1 min after email sent, she went off on me telling me that I betrayed her by going to another company, when I say yelled, I told her she was being unprofessional she started acting like a child, this coming from someone who had senior recruiter\senior team leader on her voicemail. It came out in the end she was working for the commision and not for me. even after this whole falling out and me asking her to hand my file to another recruiter, she called me 13 weeks later with her perky voice like nothing happened wanting to know if I wanted to come back, I let it go to voicemail and re emialed her nicely about changing recruiters. I haven't been back since

I was warned! But, they had the location I wanted which is the only positive aspect I can site. During my 13 week assignment I had 8 contact people, all who would lose timesheets, copies of licenses etc. I spent more time on the phone and faxing than one person should have to, especially since they had all they needed before I signed the contract. However, my recruiter passedme on to another before I started, then she had diferent assistants and on and on it went. They made promises they did not keep. I had to fight for my insurance reimbursement, my first pay check, and the right to get my own housing after I found out they were sending us 20 miles from the hospital in an unsafe apartment complex. I found one nice, clean, gated 2 miles from hospital that they refused to consider.

I loved the hospital and had a great time at my job, but my housing was substandard and I was reprimanded for reporting this to my recruiter, the housing department elected not to pay my utilities and I had my heat and water turned off. I had mildew growing in my windows and a waterleak that looked like a forzen water fall at the fireplace. I spent the winter in the mountians with no heat so I worked every day just to keep warm. The job was great, hospital was fabulous even offered to put me in a motel on their dime, just hated american mobile, I only did one contract with them then moved on to a better company.

Recruiter for assignments quickly
|
|
Negative aspects of the product (cons):

Promised things and didn't carry through, low pay, lots of problems with payroll, lower bonuses than other companies.
|
|
Promised me completion bonus and then reduced the amount by half. Always made less than other traveler whether it was hourly or bonus amounts. The recruiter always found me assignments quickly though, but there was always problems with the payroll. I can't tell you how many times I was on the phone with payroll working out mistakes on my paycheck. I switched companies after I had enough of the headache.

Their lies sound like the truth at first....

|
Negative aspects of the product (cons):

Then they lie about lies they lied about.

They lost my paperwork. Then Migel (MEEE-gel he constantly reminded me as he was yelling at me) demanded I download the app. papers and resubmit ASAP, which I did less than 6 hours. 7 hours later "someone" called, and found the originals... Never got insurance because I never got the papers (because I forgot to ask for them...) Pay was always incorrect. Funny, inexplainable deductions on my paystub... Worked in the most vicious hospital (for staff) in the USA... ( I HAVE worked in 13 other facilities.) Majorly screwed out of housing stipend - recruiter Christine D. said because I stayed with my sister it wasn't like I was missing anything!!! I walked away from AMH and the facility giving them both a one digit salute. No repercussions - they still owe ME money, but I'll NEVER get into a situation like that again. AMH is that creepy man that watches kids play at the park! STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!
