No, you are not jumping the gun. I learned about traveling when a company came to my school. I then worked for 3 years at home before traveling. You will find a specialty that you like and/or are good at while in school. Then work in that field for a year. The more specialties you have the more travel opportunities you will have. Some valuable ones I've noticed are Cardiac & ER. When you figure out what you like, study and learn all you can.
