    Can someone work this out

Hi, I need some urgent help with this drug calculation.

You are required to give 300 micrograms of drug x. The ampoule contains 1:5000 solution in 5 ml. How much are you going to give?

1:5000 = 1 gram in 5000mls. I'm not sure what the formula is.

It would be great if someone could show me step for step.

Re: Can someone work this out

thats really confusioning. the way i see that, is that there is 1 gram in 5000mLs, or 1gram in 5 litres. so that would be 20mg in 1 litre. convert that to micrograms, and thats 20,000 mcg in 1000mls. so thats 20mcg in 1mL.
so if u wanted to give 300mcg, you would give 15mLs.

im not sure if thats correct, but thats what ive come up with.

    Re: Question

Thanks for your suggestion. How do you get 20mgs? Would you convert the micrograms to grams?

Change 300mcg to grams-How would you do that.
    or
Would you change grams to micrograms?

    1 gram in 5000 ml =
    1000 mg in 5000 ml=
    1 mg in 5 ml=
    1000 mcg in 5 ml
    To give 300 mcg, give 0.3 X 5 = 1.5 ml
    A very bizarre calculation question.
