What are the tips you would suggest for Night shift Nurses?
Make sure you take a nap before your 1st night on, I take a 2 hour rest , which gets me thru the night.
Create a day sleep environment, room darkening curtains, turn off phones etc. If you have kids, turning off the phone could be a problem.
I don't have any trouble sleeping during the day, some nurses take benadryl, or other sleep rx.
If I'm tired at night when it's slow, I walk around the unit.
I found that going to bed immediately when I got home ensured that I fell asleep otherwise, I would get caught up in something and lose the chance. I would wake up in the early afternoon and have time with my family before going in. Napping before going in always seemed to make me more tired. Reversing meal order helped, too. Eat breakfast at night and dinner in the morning.
Good luck,
