FYI: La Crosse nursing school gets $300,000 grant - WBAY-TV Green Bay-Fox Cities-Northeast Wisconsin News:

As the nation faces a growing need for nurses, one Wisconsin nursing school is getting federal funds to help it become part of the solution.

There are more than 600 students at the Viterbo (vih'-TER'-boh) School of Nursing in La Crosse. Sen. Herb Kohl says the school will get $300,000 to help it educate even more nurses.

According to some estimates, the country could face a deficit of about half a million nurses in the next 15 years.

Dr. Silvana Richardson is the dean of Viterbo's nursing school. Richardson says most of the money will go toward building simulation labs, where students use computerized mannequins that simulate medical emergencies.

The money will also subsidize construction of a $16 million nursing facility on campus.
