Wink oldbie in a newbie mind

    Hi Thompson and friends.
I ended up on the wrong my space and after 5 min of reading "distasteful communication" I quit!
I am in a tizz, researching travel nursing(40 years continuous experienc RN) NOW WHAT? I read La Rue's book and I am toxic on applications.
Been researching this for 5 years and intensely now for 2-3 months!!!
I love nursing /that is patients.I know what I will not do. Where does that leave me in this corporate world called Healthcare? Bartending sounds good, but I go to bed at 7pm and up at 3am. I need my sense of humor back!!
Thoughts from only RNs that still have a sense of humor. Thanks for listening!!

I think I get the meaning behind the OP; that this nurse is comparing what nursing has become to what it was when (s)he first entered the workforce. There is a strong desire to stay in nursing but to do what, exactly? The allusions to corporate world versus patients makes the point for me. I hear ya, friend. The business of healthcare has indeed contaminated the practice of healthcare. Have you considered home health or hospice care? You would be doing de-institutionalized, direct care. It may be a big change but it would put you and the patient first. Travel nursing sounds appealing because you move around but from what you say, the license applications and other paperwork would undo any benefit. Let us know what you decide to do.

    Good luck,

    R

I BEG YOUR PARDON! I have been an RN since 1998! Plus, I have an outstanding sense of humor. However, much different from your's & Ricu.

I have also been an RN for several years, and think I have a pretty good sense of humor. I just find it easier to understand people's thoughts when they're not fragmented or tangential......

    Hello Claire,

One thing nursing is good for is preparing you to reinvent yourself. You might want to look into another area of nursing, or into nurse entrepreneurship.

One cool aspect of owning your own business is that you can set your own hours depending on what you decide to do.

Could always look into legal nurse consulting or something similar. Do your work behind the scenes on your own schedule, touch base with an attorney, etc occasionally.

Lots of possibilities. Hope you find something that fits you.

    Best wishes,

    Andrew Lopez, RN
