Rip-off, new england tech nursing program

Here in Rhode Island there are several options for those wanting to get into a nursing school; RIC, URI, Salve Regina, St Josephs, Community College Of RI, and now, New England Tech. Each of these schools have specific requirements, that prospective students must meet to gain acceptance into a nursing program. It's not easy and can be very frustrating especially to those people who want to get it in a program and get it done. This journey to a RN Degree takes time and patience, to say the least.

New England Tech Nursing will accept just about anybody, as long as you have the money. They claim you can earn your Associates RN degree in as little as 15 months to 18 months. The price tag for this RN degree is $50k plus. This may seem worth the money to some, considering the speed at which you will get a RN degree, however, there is more to the picture that you should be aware of. There is a drop out factor for any nursing school for various reasons. Could be a change of heart, financial problems, or academics. Not everyone will make it through to an RN degree. New England Tech is no different in this regard. But, the numbers are a bit more drastic. Of the two to three class which have now made it through the program, the number of students is significantly low. It's not uncommon for a student to get through the first semester, only to be pushed back into another class due to being withdrawn from current classes. Withdrawn from classes they were actually passing and doing quite well in! Wow, they can still remain in the program and continue their nursing education! Be aware, the price tag is still ticking, and the school now gets more money from you. Kinda like taking a cab ride and you ask the driver to stop off real quick while you run into a store. But, why would a student be withdrawn from classes they were obviously passing and doing well in? That makes no sense does it? Understand that NEIT will accept anyone into it's nursing program, the more there merrier. Many students have never had a simple biology course let alone a dosage and calculation course. Dosage and Calculations is one of the most important skills a nursing student and an RN, for that matter, must have. This skill is vital to moving forward and if you don't have it prior to becoming a student at NEIT, you are on your own. Those folks that are forced to withdraw from classes in which they are passing is due, mostly to the lack of dosage and calculation skills. Basically, math skills. School policy is if you fail a Dosage quiz more than three times you must withdraw from all of you classes and bounce back to the class behind you and start that semester over again. This means more time for you, and lots more money to the school!

It's crazy, but this program requires some non-nursing classes be added to the curriculum such as Computer class (Word, Excel, Power Point), yet, they don't have a dosage class, even though that is exactly where the students are struggling. I have heard they now "offer" some sort of Dosage and Calc class, but I'm not certain.

Than there is the "H" Factor. This would be the administrator of this program. My experience as well as many others, is that she is very unprofessional and a bully. Any, and I do mean any, concerns, questions or comments about the program or policies, which in any way carries even a slight, negative connotation, will be dealt with covertly and swiftly. You cannot hide or hope she does not find out who wrote a bad course critique because she has moles, other students feeding her information on who is saying what. She fosters an extremely vial environment within the program.

Just the price tag for this Associates degree should tell you something. Don't waste your money and time at this school. Once you are in you cannot afford to get out. The credits are not accepted at other schools and you are forced to remain in a bad situation. This nursing school is a rip-off. Good luck
