Nursing is one of those jobs that usually have a lot more openings available than there are qualified people to fill them. The Idaho Department of Labor says a shortage of registered and licensed practical nurses will be erased this year instead of next year. But the need for nurses with advanced degrees will continue into the foreseeable future. Valerie Wagner is chairman for the associated degree nursing program at CSI. She said “not always they typically get a job out in a hospital, but looking at employment at long term care facilities, home health, public health and physician’s offices.” Wagner says many older nurses are hanging onto their jobs longer to save up retirement money they may have lost due to the recent economic dip during the last few years. She also says these days many potential employers want their nurses to already have their nursing licenses before they'll hire them.
