Piedmont Virginia Community College will host free information sessions on its health care programs of study, such as nursing, emergency medical services and radiography.

The sessions will provide information about classes available beginning with the fall 2011 semester. All of the sessions will be free and open to the public and held in Room M229 in Piedmont’s main building.

A session on PVCC’s nursing program will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 4. The college’s two-year associate’s degree in nursing prepares graduates for jobs in acute and long-term care settings.

A session on emergency medical services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5. PVCC’s two-year associate’s degree paramedic program prepares graduates for a career in pre-hospital emergency medical care.

The session on Piedmont’s radiography and diagnostic medical sonography will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 21 and at 5 p.m. Jan. 28. The session will explain PVCC’s degree programs that can lead to careers as radiologic technologist or a diagnostic medical sonographer.

Surgical technology will the focus of a session at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 and 6 p.m. Jan. 7. Surgical technologists perform a number of functions in the operating room as an entry-level member of the surgical team. PVCC offers certificates that can lead to a career in surgical technology and prepares graduates for national certification.

Sessions on health information management will be held at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Jan. 4 and at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11. Graduates from Piedmont’s health IT management program may go on to work in local hospitals, nursing homes, doctor’s offices and elsewhere. PVCC offers a certificate in the field that can be obtained after three semesters of study.
