For anyone interested: New nursing program to help sexual crime victims - WTHR | Indianapolis

Indianapolis - A new program at the University of Indianapolis hopes to train graduate students in the School of Nursing to help victims of sexual crimes.

The university on the south side of Indianapolis is offering a new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certificate. The program aims to train nurses to deal with the physical, psychological and legal needs of sexual abuse victims.

Indiana law requires every county to have a sexual assault response team. But university officials say most counties don't have nurses specifically trained to provide such care.

The University of Indianapolis is also creating a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner program that officials hope will help improve women's health in Indiana.
