The National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission has awarded an initial five-year accreditation to the Spartanburg Community College associate degree in nursing program.

The college received initial approval to open the program in May 2004 from the South Carolina State Board of Nursing and received a recommendation by NLNAC for a five-year initial accreditation in 2008.

"Words are not sufficient to express my excitement," Sherry Vaughn, SCC's vice president of academic affairs, said in a statement.

"The tireless efforts on the part of our nursing staff and faculty are reflected in the excellent results of our program and in this national accreditation."

SCC offers the only ADN program in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties and accepts up to 70 students each year. Those wishing to enter the program are required to apply for admission, based on a weighted admissions process, once they are accepted to the college. Students may begin in either the fall or spring semester.

The program traditionally achieves a 100 percent job placement rate among graduates, according to the college.
