Thought this would be of interest: BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Jersey | Joint nursing course initiative

A course designed to encourage people to start a career in nursing is to begin in Jersey in September.

The course, jointly run by the General Hospital and Highlands College, will result in a vocational qualification.

The head of nursing and midwifery education at the hospital said the partnership would help provide worthwhile jobs for local people.

Julie Mesny said running the course in Jersey should also help to boost hospital recruitment.

Last month the government's health minister admitted a shortage of nurses was putting the hospital under pressure.
Jim Perchard said the States might have to consider increasing pay rates to encourage more nurses to come and work in Jersey.
