FYI: PJC nursing program takes top rank | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal

Pensacola Junior College's practical nursing program is ranked No. 1 out of 1,036 programs in the country.

The PJC program earned a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nursing, a semiannual, comparative review of nursing programs.

"Totally awesome," said Pat Jones, PJC's interim director of nursing.
PJC's nursing program is 50 years old and graduates about 200 students annually.

Students spend a year in the program, with some going on to become registered nurses and others going to work under the supervision of registered nurses or doctors.

This is the first time the program has been at the top of the rankings, said Marcia Williams, provost of the Warrington campus, which houses 21 health-related programs.

"It is very distinctive to have a 100 percent pass rate and be No. 1, she said."
