Thread: What is your specailty

    Re: What is your specailty

I have done Long Term Care, Skilled Nursing, Rehab, Medical, Surgical, Telemetry, Step-Down, Secondary RN in ICU, ER, and relief House Supervisor.

I go round and round with travel companies each time I go to get a job because they want to know what my specialty is. They want me to pick one, and then they'll say, "What have your assignments been?" Once again, pick one. I have had FIVE assignments, on FIVE different floors.

    My specialty? QUALITY NURSING CARE!

I did oncology for a little over 5 years, but then I made the jump to information systems/informatics. Better hours. Better Pay. & Less Stress!! I do miss interacting w/ the patients, though.

How long did you work in L&D? Did you enjoy it? I am considering a career in nursing and would be interested in L&D. But I also have children (ages 3 and 9 months) and want to be able to be home with them as much as possible.

I wouldn't start a nursing program until my youngest is in preschool but I am just kind of getting my feelers out there to see what a career in nursing would be like, especially with a family.

I started school with a 1 1/2, 2 1/2 and 4 yr old. It just depends on how you handle things, how much support you have, how much you need to study etc how you do in school that's with our without kids. New grads in general don't get dayshifts (at least not around here) evenings are good with little kids but not once they get in school. Nights are hard with preschoolers but not as bad once they are in school as you can sleep while they are in school then have the evenings together.

I have a question and I am not too sure anyone can help. I am an ER nurse and am looking into the cath lab for a job change. I just recently found out that I am pregnant 10 1/2 wks. I am not too sure how that would work, cath lab and being pregnant. If anybody has any ideas or answers please let me know. Thanks

    Hello there,
I've been an RN for 10+ years...worked in med/surg, tele, stepdown, occupational health, and private practice. Nursing is such a broad career path....I hope to be doing something like you're doing in Endoscopy etc.. How do you like it? Any advise for a wanna-be? Do you have your BSN? I hold my ADN, but wonder if it's going to serve me well in the next 20yrs?

There are far too many ADN schools still out there cranking out graduates for ADNs to be phased out anytime soon. It too forever for hospitals to start paying more (and many still don't) for BSNs.

Your ADN will serve you quite well as long as you keep your license and your skills current. They are not going to be phased out anytime soon.

There will be more nursing opportunities in the next two decades than you ever dreamed possible.

Pick an area you like and run with it

    General Speciality = Critical Care
Current Specific Speciality = Neuroscience Critical Care

My ultimate goal is to be a Flight RN. I have 18 years in prehospital medicine - 11 as a paramedic.
