I was in nursing school with a woman in her sixties. She had many trials during school. Her son was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer during mid terms and she lost her husband during school as well. She finished in spite of it all and did very well. Age is an attitude and a life style I believe. I'm 57 and plan to work til I'm at least 70. I LOVE nursing. I'm also a recovering alcoholic with six and a half years continual sobriety. God is so good!

46 is not old at all. Seasoned? Yes. Old? No.

It's good to see that there seem to be a lot of older persons going into nursing. I'm 35 and have been thinking about nursing for a few years now. I'm just now researching it.

One of your research findings will be that for many of us the nursing profession is a second or third career. I started in the healthcare field at 34 & became an RN at age 37. My first career was an aircraft electrician, a skill gained via USMC.

On a similar note, the max age for entry into the Army Nurse Corps is 46 years old. ANC officers must pass the Army Physical Fitness Test & be within Ht/Wt standards just like the rest of the Army. So, just saying at 35 yrs old is not too late in life for nursing school.

I was probably the oldest in my RN class, and it didn't phase me at all. After all, I knew that JFK had Addison's disease.....

Age is just a number, right?

And I knew who was referred to in the song about, Abraham, Martin, and John. These younger nurses are clueless without looking it up on a puter

:offtopic: Lincoln, King, and Kennedy. THAT was before my time. Anyone else know where they were when Kennedy got shot?

Back to your regular post, folks!

When I was very young I wanted to be a nurse - My original plan was to join the Navy and get my degree that way. My dad was against my joining the military he wanted me to be a teacher and I caved and got a liberal arts degree. Never did teach and close to 20 years later at the age of 38 I went to nursing school.

So no It's never too late as long as you are up to the physical demands of the program.

    Peace and Namaste
