I'd always loved babies and babysitting and I saw the nurses rocking the babies (this is July when it's burning around here) and I thought by gosh I can rock babies in air conditioning too LOL didn't think about doing anything but rocking them and feeding them http://www.ultimatenurse.com/ubbthre...lins/smile.gif

I WANTED TO BE A NURSE LIKE MY BIG SISTER, THEN I WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF THE ELDERLY, HOWEVER I CAN REMEMBER IN HIGH SCHOOL, I WANTED TO BE IN THE MILITARY AND BE A NURSE. I HAVE DONE BOTH, AND NOW I CAN SAY THAT NURSING ALLOWS YOU TO BE AND DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.
Re: What Attracted You To The Field of Nursing?
I never wanted to be a nurse when I was growing up. All that blood! Yuck! After I was married, turned out I needed a job. My Mom worked as a nursing assistant in a local nursing home and suggested I try it. During my time there I worked with a wonderful nurse whose compassion was awe inspiring. I thought that if I could be half the nurse she was, I would have accomplished something important in my life. I was an LPN for 20 years before going back to school and becoming an RN then achieved a BSN. This all started 30 years ago and I still get excited about nursing! What a wonderful profession we are in. A few years back I called that nurse on the phone and told her how she had inspired me. She was then in her 70's and long since retired. I don't think she even remembered me. But I'll never forget her and what she did for me.

In Nursing for this decade and probably the next, it something you won't ever need to worry about. The shortage we're in will last at least that long.
