What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business
In my case, it was a desire to spend more time with my wife and newborn child. I discovered that with my own business, I could earn enough to stay home more. Initially I made enough to stay home an extra day a week, then two and so on.
Here are what some other nurses have to say on why they started their own Nurse-Owned businesses.

Re: What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business
What made you decide to start your own business?: I started my LNC business after being contacted by a defense attorney regarding a physician I worked for. He was being sued for malpractice. After reviewing the chart I notified the attorney of several glaring discrepancies between the documentation and the patient's claims. The physician beat the malpractice suit and the attorney said, "you should be an LNC" and I said, "A WHAT?" and the rest is history.
I started my custom embroidery business because God was good enough to match my talent and my need to find something constructive to do after my accident with my knowlege that a lot of nurse entrepreneurs want nice, professional items but can't afford huge orders and big fees. Win win!! Yea God!

Re: What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business
I decided to start my own business after 18 years in bedside nursing.
My business is marketing dental and medical discount plans .
The healthcare crisis in this country is horrible and this gives me an opportunity to help others while making money..
I needed more freedom and I wanted to control my own hours.
I am currently working parttime in addition to my business, but my goals are to eventually leave bedside nursing completely.

Re: What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business
Well, at 20 years old it didn't bother me that the hospital OWNED me and MY TIME! At 30 I started a Medical Cost Containment Corporation doing medical fraud reviews, certified medical auditing, legal reviews... which honestly owned ME more than ME owning it, and at 40-50, I decided to more follow my passion and have a business Tim and I could work from home, and we LOVE it. We have a life with Vacations now! LOL! Linda/CMAS, BS, RN
Re: What Made You Decide To Start Your Own Business
Think it is definitely worth the effort to find out what is out there. Know lots of nurses who would love to put their skills to use away from the bedside.

Why did I start my own Nurse Education business?
Well I wanted to do more than my facility would allow me as an educator to help nurses transition back to work. I wanted to do a customized program to help nurses returning to practice or changing areas of practice do so safely. I am glad to be able to provide this service even though it is not a lot of money in it, the rewards when a nurse refresher makes a successful transition back and is happy is very satisfying. I can say it was much harder to start a business than I expected and I work longer hours than on any job I have ever had. I have also learned more than they probably teach in any MBA program in the 10 years we have been in business.
