Assignments

I have been having trouble getting assignments where I want them. Every time I talk to my recruiter I am told there are no assignments in that area. I have a specialty of pediatrics and only want to take pediatric assignments. Has anyone else been having the same trouble?

if you would like, you can send me a private message with what you are looking for, and I can look around for you, and find what you want, without the hassle of recruiters contacting you, or getting your info. Then I can send you the info of who has what and where for you, and you can do what you want with it.

Or you could try posting to the recruiters section. I am sure they would be glad to ge a crack at helping you out in finding what you need.

I have noticed alot of nurses lately talking about not being able to find work. Alot of psych nurses. I'm not really sure that I've noticed a decrease anywhere, but I guess maybe importing nurses has had some affect on traveler usage.

Really, I think it goes in phases. Hospitals will swear off travelers saying they aren't using them anymore, but then in two months they are right back with them. It's been a very funny merry go round with the local hospitals here revolving about every 4 or 5 months. They can't make up their minds.

Are you just hooked up with one agency, or several? A lot of times the agency just doesn't have a contract with hospitals in the area where you want to be. You might want to look at several different agencies in order to get what you want.

What area are you trying to get into? Some areas don't use alot of travelers. In other areas, you have to go through AAS, which deters alot of companies, because the rates are so low, in turn, leading to less job opportunities...

    Re: Assignments

Generally speaking most Travelers that I've come in contact with are signed up with at least 3 companies.

You will find that some Travel Company will have an assignment in a given area and/or specialty that another has no such listing.

    Re: Assignments

AAS stands for All About Staffing. They are owned by HCA Corporation who own a chunk of hospitals across the country. If you want to work at an HCA hospital, you have to go through them directly or your travel company has to contract with AAS to get you in that hospital. I currently work locally with AAS and make a nice hourly rate. I plan to travel in October and not sure if I'll stay with them or not. They only staff at HCA hospitals so if I decided to go to a non-HCA hospital then I have to use a different company. However, I plan to come back home in January and work at my current hospital and I will have to switch back to AAS directly or stay with whatever company I am with and have them contract with AAS as the middleman. I've spoke with other travelers who say that if you go with AAS directly they pay you a higher hourly wage. However, there is one travel nurse who is with Trinity and checked into what AAS would pay her directly which was less than what she was currently making. So go figure? Hope this helps!!
