    Re: question

    Here goes!
1)Nursing is moving toward automony in practice and the public is aware of this. They are responding by asking more of us. In turn, this is requiring nurses to raise their level of education.
2)The mean population is getting older. With better technology, medication and prevention there is a greater patient population.
3)Clinical pathways are shortening the time patients spend in hospital (not to mention HMO's) therefore inpatients are of a higher acuity.
4)The field of home care has grown by leaps and bounds due to #3.
5)Bioterrorism and terrorism in general have put nurses and nursing on alert to respond to major catastrophic events
    Hope this gets you started!
