How to become a nurse?

I have a MS in mechanical engineering, but i have developed an interst in nursing.Is there a chance for me to become a nurse now. what would be a quick and inexpensive way to becoming a nurse.

The quickest and cheapest way to get your RN is via Associate Degree program. However, the availiability of these programs varies, some states do not have them at all. Please give more info about where you live and why you are interested in becoming a nurse in the least expensive and quickest way.
