    Starting school

Hi, I am starting college for the first time in the spring. I am 30 years old. I will be taking all of my prereq. classed to go through the RN program. I am so afraid of failing. I did not do well in high school. But I want this so bad. My family says I will do well because I want to. I will do my best. Any confidence boosting would be appreciated.

Way to Go! You are smart to get the undergrad courses out of the way. Set up an organized area at home. Set up a file and have a computer if you are able to afford it. There is so much info. on the net. Keep your study schedule as best as possible. Get with your family and set up clear expectations of what everyone will do to help you get this done. It will be hard, make no mistake. There are a multitude of scholarships and grants out there if you need financial assist. You can find that online and through the school financial office. If at all possible, get a job somewhere in the hospital or nursing home and get some hands on before you have an instructor standing over you. That will serve you very well. Keep us in touch with your progress and if we can help in any way let us know. I am in school for my BSN after 26yrs with an Associate Degree so I know where you are. I will be glad to e-mail with you. lpatterson5@triad.rr.com

You WILL do well and it IS because you want it.Let me tell you, I wanted out of my waitress job so bad that when I went to Nursing school, I used anything with a Red Lobster logo(where I worked) as bookmarks for my readings. My 55 year old waitress friend gave me her picture to carry around as well. She told me anytime I didn't want to go to school or study or even thought about quitting, I was to pull out her picture as a reminder of what I didn't want to be, a 55 year old Red Lobster waitress. She is still a very dear friend and I owe my sucesses to those who kicked my butt when I needed it! Get help when you need it and come back here if you need more support. Take Care

    HA!!!!!!!!

Red Lobster! Worked there long enough! Spent most of my money before I left. I ate there every day.

I could still eat Clam Chowder once a day. Man I miss that place. Not working there, just eating there. I worked there for a year and a half.

I hear ya!!! My favorite was the Crab Alfredo. Did you have to sing the stupid Birthday Song??? I worked there for seven years, through school. I made some lifelong friends. That's funny that you worked there too. Take Care!!

Hey, being motivated is 1/2 the battle. Take your classes seriously, give the effort the time it deserves and you'll be a winner regardless of the outcome.

Nursing school can be difficult, I wish you well. You can find some helpful resources at http://www.4nursingstudents.com

You already have some ....what I call.."guts" inside of you and to be honest with you, that's where it all starts! Erase fear totally out of your mind and tell yourself you can do it!! Even when taking difficult tests, tell yourself "I know I can do it and I can't fail" I scaled thru many times talking to a "seemingly" difficult question, "I will pass this exam, I will not fail!" Refuse to hang around people that will "input" fear in you ....telling you it's so difficult and many people just keep withdrawing out of nursing school..sometimes, they tell you, "I haven't really seen anybody I know graduating from the nursing school, it's either they dropped out or were dropped" Like my answer to those fellows.."well, I'll be the first you know to graduate from the nursing school!"you can tell that boldly to any fellow that dares you with that..next time they watch their tongue before coming to talk to you...
Final word...JUST KEEP ON KEEPING ON...people do it, and so can you!!! GO AND SUCCEED!Goodluck!!
