Thread: Looks

    Looks

Does anyone think that looks get you a better schedule? With a lower patient ratio? Just wondering.

nope I don't think so I think seniority and what you were hired to gets you your schedule and assignments are based on patient need/acuity and nurse experience or need for experience

    welcome back tiredofthesystem.

I'll agree with you here, in that some instances looks might have an affect on receiving benefits from your supervisor or whoever it might be.

It shouldn't, and anyone worth a crap in a management position won't allow that to happen, however I am sure it does.

And I can't say that if I was a single guy and some hot single nurse was flirting with me and asking for a certain day off or whatever, that I wouldn't likely be inclined to assist her in getting her way, as long as it wasn't a big deal.

I think there's a difference between THAT and giving one nurse a light patient load and burdoning another nurse with additional patients. That would be just plain wrong.

Maybe I'm out of the "big" loop but never in my nearly thirty year long medical career in over ten different facilities; in subacute, acute and critical care and in four states have I ever seen the appearance or appeal of a staff member procure a better assignment. I've seen many things but I can honestly say I haven't seen this.

what makes you ask the question of do looks get you a better position? i would ask does knowing the boss get a better position? does being popular get a better position? does coming from a more esteemed school get you a better position? i would never think looks get you a better position. i think in nursing it's about who you know, how well liked are you, and where did you grad from. the band blink 182 often refers to themselves as "ugly" but they have a big fan club.

LOL, orange juice is your friend... so, no excuses for misbehavior!

My wife is a very attractive RN, but also highly skilled. Therefore, she certainly does not get a lower patient ratio. If anything, I'd think the nurse-patient ratio is based more on the acuity level of patients & nursing staff available. Regards to an actual better schedule... not hardly.

BTW, I'd consider myself a good looking RN, too. However, I'd bet the Army Medical Department could careless regards to good looks of their ANC officers.

IMHO, this is a silly Thread.

Does the size of a male nurse's..... shoe get him a better schedule or a lower patient ratio? That question was just as ridiculous.

Welcome back. Remember when we do not play nice we get put in time out
