Single mommy trying to get into the field!

Hi everyone! I'm a 24 y/o single mom a beautiful 7-month-old little girl I currently run my own medical transcription company, but it's not overly profitable lol, and I'd love a career change. I am trying to figure out the best way to get into the nursing field. My eventual goal is a BSN, but not sure exactly how to get there.

I live in a small town currently, and the only program they have is an associates degree LVN. I don't know much about anything at this point, but I know I want to be a nurse!!!

I will probably be going to school in Sacramento provided I can get in to some of the schools. Any advice from other single moms or mother's in general would be great!

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site! I know you'll find some useful information in previous posts. I'd provide links, but just got in from being called in to work....2nd day in a row!

You are in CA you say. I am sure you can get your LVN, then work and go to school for your BSN. That is how I did it here in the MidWest.

I wish you luck, and hope you drop by often!

Congratulation on your decision to pursue nursing, it is a field that will serve you and your family well.

Would look around at all the programs within reach, find out about waiting lists, etc.

You can find a long list of nursing schools here http://www.4nursingschools.com

The best bet, to get working quickly is an Asssociates, the best opportunity career-wise would be a four year BSN program. http://www.nursefriendly.com/rn

A shortcut would be Licensed Vocational Nursing school with a plan to go back for your RN. http://www.nursefriendly.com/lpn

The bottom line is to apply and apply quickly as classes are filling up, waiting lists are getting long.

    Hope that is helpful
