Thread: so, I'm bored.....let's talk about abortion

so, I\'m bored.....let\'s talk about abortion

maybe that'll get people stirred up enough to post.

    My stance:

I am against abortion as a means of birth control. I am for abortion in cases of rape/molestation, things like that, and in cases where there is known serious dysfunction in the baby, as well as if the birth presents harm to the mother. As far as pregnant children are concerned, and by that I mean for instance, a 13 year old getting pregnant. Obviously, in most cases like this there is an obvious self esteem/emotional/home life problem otherwise, the child probably wouln't take part in something like sexual intercourse at that early of an age. So, that puts the "mother" at an immediate disadvantage as far as family assistance goes. Plus, as a child herself, the "mother" has not gone through any of the maturing experiences of her teenage years. I see no benefit to mankind or society from taking away the "option" of a child.

I mean, if you're 13 and pregnant, you have no clue about life, NO CLUE. And to be expected to raise a child because of a bad mistake at age thirteen?

Can you imagine being 29 years old, and having a 16 year old daughter? I'm 26, and I can't believe I have a 3 year old! She's more mature than me half the time already.

I would estimate that less than 10% of the population at age 29 even own their own home (i do ) let alone are able to afford to pay for the clothes/shoes, food, toiletries, entertianment, etc. for a 16 year old. I think it is hardly right to support something that insists on a society with 29 year old mothers of 16 year old daughters. It takes only a bit of sense to see what that would lead to. Watch just one episode of Jerry Springer and you'll see what I mean.

Why force them into that position? At least give them an option. I didn't even know what a job WAS at 13. I BARELY knew what an erection WAS. I couldn't tell you what the difference was between a Democrat and a Republican. I couln't have named the secretary of state. I didn't know that a tax form existed. All I knew about had absolutely nothing to do with "reality". Children are oblivous to what goes on around them. When was the very first time you said, "Hey dad, are you through with that paper"? I was AT LEAST 16! I damn sure wasn't mature enough or intellectually in tune to what my best interests were. Heck, most boys at thirteen want to be GYNECOLOGISTS! What does that tell you? Kids my age at 13 used to always say that, like it was something real great, to look at that part of women all day. YEAH, I'd say it too!.....IF IT WAS SEXY SALLY THE CELEBATE SUPERMODEL's ANNUAL CHECKUP DAY all day everyday, sure, it might be something to consider, but that is HARDLY the ideal job for a man, unless your some kind of sicko, (oh okay, some very wonderful men do it because they love taking part in the birthing of a child or some other bs reason, let's not get into that). I mean, that's just gross. Diseases, fungus, objects that once belonged in a liquor store or tool box now wedged in places they don't belong next to a four iron and an egg beater. Stuff like that, and thats just sick people.

So, I'm rambling on massively, but my point is there is no way you can take away the right to choose from a 13 year old child. First of all, we need to educate and assist children more before this point, so this doesn't happen in the first place. Put our efforts there, not spending all our time debating the solution when we haven't even looked at the problem yet.

Also, going the other way, you cannot allow mature adults to commit such an act against a life simply becuase they do not want to take responsibility for the repurcussions of their actions. They chose to do what they did when they had sex, and they are physically, emotionally, and psychologically advanced enough to be held accountable for their actions.

There is a fine line here in my opinion. It seems though, that I am in the majority in taking a middle road such as this. The majority of opinion I have seen or heard is completely for either one side or the other.

Okay, you're turn, and please, don't ramble like I just did, nobody likes it

Re: so, I\'m bored.....let\'s talk about abortion

I think that whosoever impregnates a thirteen year old should be aborted, know what I mean?
The rest of it is a dicy topic. No matter what my beliefs are....I do believe the decision is a deeply personal one and should be left to an individual/or family.
And for all those "Right to Lifers", if you were to know the truth; more than a few of them are S/P abortion. They are now screaming about how bad abortion is. Well, THEY had an option and just because it didn't end up better for them, they are now self appointed to correct everyone else.
I may change my mind at some point but I think that men should have no say about a woman having an abortion. They are not the ones left to raise the child. Men can always walk out and never do another thing. Obviously, he didn't care in the beginning. This is not a slam on all men. It is just how I feel about the abortion situation.

I agree with you on this. Not necessarily because the man has the option to walk out because he could choose to stay and the woman could say no, but because it is impossible for a man to truly have even remotely any idea of what it is like to have something growing inside of him. This is a feeling specific to women only therefore it would be very difficult to tell someone how they are feeling mentally, physically, and emotionally.

At some point though, a "right" must be given to the child. At what point that should take place is an issue that will never be resolved.

In this country we all have different religious beliefs and some of us don't have any religious beliefs. When you add in the aspect of whether or not humans have souls and when/if an unborn child recieves one, then it becomes an insanely difficult discussion.

I do not believe in abortion, I can not imagine anything that would change my mind for me. I was told once that legally I was eligible for an abortion. (That statement probably ages me) BUT morally no matter what I am no allowed to have an abortion. Now having said that... I strongly do believe in being there for the individuals so strongly hurt by the situations or the after affects of the choice they made for themselves or others they were close to made that affected them. I believe in doing all I can before and after to help all involved. I want to do all I can before and after, but I would not be strong enough to live helping people during.
