Although I have never personally practiced rehabilitation nursing as a specialty, I have certainly practiced on the periphery. One very important characteristic of professional nursing is collaboration. I can see this as an integral part of the rehab process. Along with the RN, LPN, CNA, there would be a complete menu of therapy modalities involved ie.
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Medical Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Pastoral Care and of course the attending physician. There would probably be other physicians involved ie. orthopedic, maxillofacial, plastic, urology etc. This would be a very challanging field to be in! Finally, it is impossible to compare a "rehab" nurse to any other. Nursing has become so specialized and comparing would be between and apple and an orange, so to speak.
