| Small hospital insecurities My only nursing experience has been at a critical access hospital on the coast of Maine. 5 years acute care and 1 year emergency. Although I love my job, I'm feeling "dead ended". I'd love to travel (Maine is a compact state btw) but the idea of going to a big hospital ED is intimidating to say the least. Are there any smaller community hospitals that would be interested in a traveller with my background? I'd like to be doing something new in March 2006. |

| Re: Small hospital insecurities I think you should give travel nursing a try. I to am from a small rural hospital. It is 25 beds and we have a 2 bed ER . I went on my first travel assignment last year and was scared to death. The hospital I went to was 249 beds and I felt it was huge. Of course they thought it was small and half of the nurses there didnt believe me when I told them about my home hospital. I was scared I wasnt going to know as much as the nurses there but soon found out I knew more. In my small hospital we have to float to m/s which is everything peds to geriatics to every dx you can think of. We have tele pt, we have to run our own codes, put in are own Ivs no do are own resp tx we float to ER SDS L$D home health Hospice you name it we had to do it. I came back after that first assignment and worked PRN at my home hospital but now getting ready to go again, and yes I am scared and nervous again but know after the first few weeks after you get the feel for things, everything is fine. Good Luck and remember your small hospital gave you all the tools you need. |

| Re: Small hospital insecurities Hello, We are a smaller Travel Nurse Agency, that prides itself on genuine, personal service to our nurses. We would love to talk with you about travel nursing and share our insight on the subject. Travel Nursing has some great advantages such as elevated wages, weekly pay, and more flexibility for you, the nurse. I am sure by now you have talked to several agencies, which is exactly what I would recommend. We would love to chat with you, to see if our agency may be what you are looking for. | Re: Small hospital insecurities I am sooooo happy that I found this thread! I too am a CA hospital nurse who is looking to travel and wonder also if I have enough experience to do this. I have been a nurse for 30 years and feel comfortable with my abilities except for high-tech nursing ie: I would never touch ICU! Thanks for giving me a bit more confidence...I will need it! |

| Re: Small hospital insecurities Yeah for Maine!!! How much snow did you get last week? I am located in Dallas now but I was born and raised in Maine!! I was reading your posting and was thinking abou the hospital I work for now. We are an HIH (Hospital In a Hospital) It is a great compromise. We are a LTAC unit and I think something like this would be a good option for you. Kindred is all over the country, in fact when I moved here almost 2 years ago because my husband got accepted to Parker College of Chiropractic, I was able to transfer. I use to work for Westgate Manor in Bangor. I would be more than happy to help you find something within Kindred. Let me now if I can help!:luck: |
