    New to Forum!!

I am new to this site. My purpose in joining is to get information/help on the quickest way to pass my Nursing Concepts 2-6 tests with Excelsior College. I just learned that I must have all those completed by May 2009! I sincerely would appreciate any help you could send. Presently, I am using iStudysmart and Chancellors, but Nsg. Concepts 2 has so much material to study, I can't get through it all - too much to read and memorize. On the Nsg. Concepts 1, I earned an A, and hoped to continue to do so with 2-7, but don't have the time to put into all these. So, if anyone has any suggestions please send me a posting right away. Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the site, Maynurse! Sorry I can't help you on the Excelsior bit. I did the good old 'brick and mortar' route.

We do have a Student Nurses Lounge, General Discussion/Off Topic Forum, and a 'Rubber Room' (where you can vent as needed). I hope you drop by often.

Thanks for the reply. I just don't know how to prepare for all these tests to be completed by May 2009. It's disheartening.

Thanks for the note. I did a rotation at Darnal Army Hospital and was really glad I wasn't one of those military nurses. I would have loved to have been a nurse during the Vietnam era and served our military in a MASH unit then.

This is my first post here to. I have been a paramedic for 17 years and made it through the nursing concepts for my 2 year but need to do the clinical part. I have a little over 100 hours so I was just pushing for my 4 year but I think I am going to go ahead and finish the 2 year first. I probably wont come back to nursing until I finish my 4 year. I am currently working in Singore shipyard as a safety supervisor setting up the medical clinics on all the oil rigs that come through for two large oil companies and I know the money is good. As far as my concepts I just kinda toughed mine out as I do have a lot of time off when I get off but what is the deal on the May 2009 thing. Is that the new curriculum? My understanding from Excelsior is that if you are currently enrolled and activly taking the curriculum you will still be able to function under the old unless that has changed Let me know

My wife is a GS [civilian nurse] at Madigan Army Medical Center and wants to go back to civilian hospital setting.

Most, I think all, MASH units have been disbanded with newer version called CSH. Combat Support Hospital has similar healthcare mission to a MASH unit but on a much bigger field set-up. The smaller medical units are the FST, Forward Surgical Team and in simple terms more similar to [what was a] MASH unit.

Oops, hope that was not TMI but that is my health care world.

    Hey Medivac,

That is a cool site username, as well as a very interesting job you have as a safety supervisor in a Singore shipyard setting up the medical clinics on oil rigs. Maybe you could introduce youself here on a new thread. I'd be interested about your duties.

    BTW, welcome!

I got a notice email from EC that I had until May 09 to finish the Nsg. Concepts 1-7 because the new testing is going into effect shortly there-after. They are dividing up concepts 3 into 2 parts and adding 2 additional courses.

I was a 4.0 student my last three semesters at university and had hoped to keep this up, however, at this point in time, I am conflicted in finishing the Nsg. Concepts this quickly and not getting As as I want to go on to teach nursing and that won't look so terrific on my applications to get into a Master's program. My counselor at Excelsior said "... many students take more that one Nsg. Concepts test a month." Well, I don't believe that.

Being a paramedic for 17 years certainly does give you the edge on the floor work. I am so glad I got all that out of the way, but my A&P and Micro have to be repeated since it has been 7 years since I took them. This is rediculous since I don't believe we have added any more bones to our bodies. Centuries ago, we did evolve to the point that the Wormian bone in our skull was lost, but all the physics is the same. Like I stated - Rediculous!

Your decision to finish the 2 year instead of the 4 year is verrrrry wise.
