Re: Looking for magnet hospital assignment

I'm not a recruiter, but FYI- Magnet status is very over-hyped and over-rated... it usually means nothing in terms of how great a place is to work, so I would avoid limiting potential assignments to only Magnet hospitals... Some of the best hospitals I've worked at are non-magnet.

just my 2 cents...

Re: Looking for magnet hospital assignment

Magnet and shared governance are the latest catch phrases. I think magnet is just another way hospitals pay lots of money to have somebody tell them how great thou art.

Re: Looking for magnet hospital assignment

The girls are correct..I work in a magnet hospital at this time. It is like most hospitals..good days and bad. We seem to always have staffing issues. On tele. we have 4-5 patient each on night shift..never more. Days shift can have 3-5..depends on staff. I worked MS and had 7 patients at the most. Not sure what other hospital's ratio is. Go to the magnet site and look up the hospitals in the area that you have intrest. My mother works at a non-magnet hospital and they have the same ratio. Hope it helps!

Re: Looking for magnet hospital assignment

Absolutely! I work at a Magnet Hospital and it has nothing at all to do with the staffing ratios. While I personally believe this particular hospital is a great hospital, some days are much, much worse than others and often at an unsafe level. The only benefit is the RN to LPN supervision, wherein the LPN's can't take reports from the PACU, do first check and are really undermined as to their functionability, there are fewer LPN's to supervise, but again their duties are limited. Presently on a 90day contract at another local hospital and while all are RN's, the workload is considerably larger and the computer system is almost beyond comprehensible. We went thru great hype to achieve the Magnet level, but that is exactly what it is. Where is all the education experience/benefits if you can't leave the unit to attend. Staffing levels are the same as pre-Magnet level, and it is a blah-de-blah certification.

The list that was offered was great to assist you. Banner in AZ is a Magnet hospital ad some of the nurses love the status and other dread it. It means you will have to pass certain tests and programs prior to starting work. Yes it looks great on the resume. But may not be worth all the trouble! Good luck!
