How do I get an interview with my resume?!

I have 6 years of RN experience. Here is the thing. It is in Dermatology and Family Practice. All office no hospital. Most of my career has been with Dermatology, but beginning in 2001, I went to PRN work in Family Med and Derm for 3 different offices. Now I am back in Derm part time. I desperately want to work for a certain hospital on a certain unit (L & D). The position I am applying for is Clin I, because I have no hosp. experience. Any suggestions?

get good references and impress with the willingness to learn. You know the nursing process which is a plus. Usually L&D wants some experience but it would depend on who the competition is for the job. Our unit hired a couple of new grads over the past couple of years and the other new hires over the last 2 years had come from M/S with 5 yrs experience there. They all do fine.

Re: How do I get an interview with my resume?!

Some hospitals offer a Residency program for nurses wishing to explore other aspects of care. Residency programs generally last about eighteen weeks. Call the hospital you are interested in working with and explain to them what you want and the experience you have. Most hospitals are in need of L&D RNs will work with you to bring you on board with them.

This is something you will have to go through with a hospital and not a recruiter. Recruiters are held to statements of work that are outlined in the contract they are recruiting for, very little leeway is given on the experience requirements of the positions they recruit for.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I will be more than happy to help you find a residency program close to you. (314-744-4109)
