I am a Nurse Practitioner, who hasnt' worked in 14 years!

    Hi All,
My name is Debbie, and despite years of a rewarding career as a Neonatal NP, I left to raise my 3 boys. Well fast forward to 2008, and I really want to get back to work. But the problem is I let my license expire....and I have no idea where to begin...any and all advise will be really helpful.
I am currently living abroad, and can do online course work, will be back in the US in a year or so.....
Any good ideas out there, do I have to retake the boards??? Can I do home study for that.....

    Debbie

Update: Liciense expired Feb 28, 1998 so I hope can renew by the end of this month!!

Check with the board of nursing in the state you were licensed in. Whether or not you have to take boards again I think will depend on how long you've been expired.

I have located my license and I know it has been more than 10 years...so I guess the next step is to contact the state of CT. Are most of the rules hard and fast, or is there some flexiblity in getting reinstated?

If I do have to resit for the boards, are their intensive review classes?

    Thanks again,
    Debbie

I would think that if it had been 10 years that you will have to re-take boards- I'm not sure if they have review classes for Neonatal NP boards, but I know Kaplan offers generalized NCLEX review classes.
