Thinking of becoming a traveler

Hello...my name is Amy and I am a RN. I have only been a RN for 1.5 years. I work full-time on a med-surg floor and part-time on a trauma step-down unit. I am working two jobs because my spouse was laid off earlier this year. I am considering travel nursing for the money and perhaps a relocation in the future. Currently I am researching various companies and gathering information......I welcome all advice. I am wondering if I will make more and consistent money as a traveler.

More money? Usually. Consistently? Not always. As a traveler, you may find yourself with a lot of unexpected expenses, no paid time off, fluctuation in pay from one assignment to the next, and gaps between assignments. It is a good idea to have a couple month's income worth of savings when traveling for the unexpected things.

Welcome to the site. I would recommend staying in your stable jobs for a time longer until you have the resources to put up with the hazards of traveling. Good luck.

Re: Thinking of becoming a traveler

Another option is to work in a country like Dubai if you are really desperate for the money. You could take 6 months to plan a relocation to another country and sign a 2 year contract with a hospital give yourself some stability and options to pick up lots of overtime. I am not quite sure what country you are living in however if you work in another country where the exchange rate of your earnings works to your advantage in your own country then if may be worth looking at those countries.
Good luck
