Is re-entry possible?

Hi,

I practiced for only 3 years after I graduated from my diploma school, which was very good by the way. I quit to be a stay at home mom, which was very important to me.

Well, at age 53, if I take a refresher, is it likely that I would get hired? I am in good health and fair physical shape. I am willing to study a lot. I am not sure I could handle working on the hospital floor. I have heard it is very fast-paced now. I think I would enjoy something ambulatory, or working at a day surgery place.

Your thoughts would be welcome.

If you'd like an ambulatory setting or day surgery, I say go for it! I really see no problem with your getting hired. Let us know how it goes!

I didn't even START nursing school until I was 44 and had no problem getting a job. Also, there's a big rivalry between diploma nurses and ADN's; the concensus being diploma is better....If it's what you want, go for it, and if it's meant to be, it'll happen (I got a feeling you'll hop right back in!) Best of luck to you!

Question Re: Is re-entry possible?

Most of the posters here seem to be into travel and/or hospital nursing. Does anyone know from experience about the present prospects for employment in other areas of nursing?

Thanks again,

Crouse

Re: Is re-entry possible?

I often scan the local papers for jobs, and noted that Amb. care has has a few job openings out here. Hospice also seems to be advertising quite a bit.

BTW.....I work LTC....'da bosses' gave me the needed push for my RN.
