I've worked in Salisbury, NC before, it's about 45 min northeast of Charlotte.

NC is my home state but I've yet to see any Travel assignments there and I keep in touch with alot companies. There are some companies actually that have their headquarters there like Travmedusa and Cirrus I think. I did a quick search on indeed.com and saw Travel Nurse Across America had some jobs there. Check with Cathy Phillips there Cathy@nurse.tv

I'm with Travel Nurse Accross America, and I've been trying to get an assignment in NC or SC for the longest time. Everytime my recruiter turns me off to it speaking of very low pay, and said that the hospitals they work with give the PBDS tests, and many of their travellers "failed" the test and the contract was cancelled. She even said that the hospitals use the test to weed out travellers that they may not like.

I don't know if I believe that or not. I am on the lookout for a new company at the moment however. Anyone with Cirrus or hear anything about them? I still would like to travel to the Carolinas!

Yes, many hospitals use PBDS to "weed out" travelers. I have taken it before in FL & passed, but I refuse to take it again. I have a study guide for it if you're interested, just PM me with your e-mail address....

That being said, not every place in NC requires PBDS, I'd say the majority of facilities don't use it. I worked at Rowan Regional in Salisbury, NC and did not have to take it. I do know that New Bern, NC requires PBDS, but I have heard horrible things about that place form other travelers (and they are ALWAYS hiring travelers, which makes you wonder....)

What is your specialty? Im an L&D traveler, but my NC is my home state and Ive never had a problem finding an assignment there when I want to work close to home. Im also a charlotte native and know for a fact, that presby and carolinas medical center-university all use travelers. In other areas of the state Pitt County memorial, UNC, Duke , and Wake Med all use travelers as well. Try RN network to help you find some assignments.
