Newbie here!

New girl here and I mean really new I'm just getting ready to start going to nursing school in the next few months. This is something I've always wanted to do since I was in high school but getting a late start because I had 2 kids right out of high school and another just 3 years ago. But better late than never I guess. I have so many questions but my main one is about how long will I be in school before I can start actually working in a hospital? My goal is to eventually be a labor/delivery nurse and caring for newborns even if I don't start there at first I don't know if that would require more school or special training first. Any answers would be great! Thanks! I'll check in later

Hi, angelbear! Nice to meet you. Most stuedent nurses are CNA's before clinicals start. Perhaps that would be a good idea. You get some experience along the way.

Hope to hear alot about your studies!

Welcome! Most nursing programs start their students into clinicals the end of the first semester, after getting checked off in the skills lab.

Good luck & keep us posted!

Wink Re: Newbie here!

Hi - Just wanted to let you know that I got hired in Labor and delivery the day after I graduated from nursing school and I went to work on an interim permit from the BON. The course the hospital sent me to for L&D took 12 weeks of classroom training which They wanted me to do right away - I didn't take my NCLEX until 120 days after I graduated and I passed on the first try. I now work in psych but wouldn't mind going back to L&D some day. If I could find a hospital with 8 hour shift like I have in psych.

Peace and Namaste
