    I'm new!

My name is Ritchey and I am currently in nursing school. I decided to join the forum so that I can gain more knowledge and get information about the types of nursing that I am interested in. I am really wanting to be a med/surg nurse and I have been researching how to become certified. If you have any tips for a student please send them my way!!! I am looking forward to chatting with all of you

    Hello Ritchey,

Welcome to nursing. Getting into Medical/Surgical nursing is smart, in that it will prepare you for almost any other type of nursing. You will see a wide variety of diseases, conditions, therapies and learn skills that will last you a lifetime.

Once you start working, you can apply for a med/surg certification after like 4000 hours of employment.

Lots of organizations offer discounted student memberships if you're interested.

You can find more information here:

Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN):"The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) is the only national professional nursing specialty organization dedicated to adult health/medical-surgical nurses. Its mission is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of medical-surgical nurses in all practice settings through certification, education, nurturing relationships, and the promotion of quality nursing care and wellness."
    AMSN Headquarters:
East Holly Avenue Box 56 Pitman, NJ 08071-0056

Hope that is helpful to you.
