Talking New to this Site

Hi everybody. Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving Day.
I am new to this site. I am a psychiatric RN working in the state hospital. In about 6 mos or so, I am seriously contemplating wanting to take a travel assignment;however, the challenge (opportunity) is finding a reliable, trustworthy, dependable agency. My head is spinning and eyes crossed as to how many agencies there are.

So the question is: What are some really good agencies out there that accommodate psych RNs? I am predominantly looking in the Indiana area for now. I don't need lodging as such in that I plan to stay with family.

Additionally, I would really love to work as a psych nurse in a correctional facility, and if that doesn't work out, then a state facility or military hospital (since I want to work with PTSD soldiers returning from Iraq/Afghanistan) since I am retired military veteran myself.

I am subscribed to the free magazine Healthcare Traveler; however I don't really get the info I truly do need to make an informed decision as to the best agency to go with..................

Thanks tons for any advice you all may render...................looking forward to reading the various posts on this nursing site.

Re: New to this Site

Highway hypodermics is a good lil reference site as far as company info goes.
I use On Assignment and am now also using RN Network. I think it is always a good idea to have at least two main companies, for option's sake.
At one time, I had a recruiter who was elusive, and difficult to contact, but that was resolved by changing recruiters. I guess if things weren't done by humans, they might be a little more perfect...grin.

Hi, mudskipper! Nice to meet you. We do have a Military nurses forum, if you'd like to drop by and post. Mag, one of our Mods, is presently in the Sandbox at this time.

Hope to see you around!

Re: New to this Site

Hi "Cat"......love the pic of your cat by the way. I have two myself and one dog (Dutch Shepherd) who likes to "herd" them. Quite the site.
Thanks for the info on military nurses. Unfortunately, I didn't serve in the Army as a nurse.......I started off in intelligence and my last branch was army aviation (helicopters)............I am a "late in life" RN.............hey, better late than never............it's a looooooooooooooooooong story.............

At any rate, thanks for the info especially since I am seriously considering coming out of the retired reserves and getting into a medical reserve unitas an RN THIS time around....................I want to work with soldiers returning from Iraq/Afghanistan and PTSD....................

Are you prior military?

Thanks for the info and welcome!
:-)

Re: New to this Site

So, Milton (aka 'ugly cat') struck again! Milty is a Himalayan; you can't really see it, but one of his fangs sticks out. Thus...'Ugly Cat'. I've heard of German Shepards and Belgian Shepards, but NOT Dutch Shepards. I wanna see a picture of the herding bit.....

Not military here; dad and father in law are both Korean Conflict vets, uncle was in reserves, and husband was in ROTC. Several other family members in service at one time or another. You can still drop by the military thread to post/see what's going on.

Anyhow, the shopping I did today is catching up with me. Hope you drop by the Daily Thread and post when you can. See ya later!
