Unhappy My Sad Story (short version)

Hi! I am new to the board, but have been reading for the last couple of days. The folks here seem to be very experienced and knowledgable and so I hope can give me some advice. I have planned to travel for some time but didn't plan on it quite yet, but I was fired from the facility where I have worked for the past six years. ( I was planning to leave but wasn't quite quick enough!) I have 15 plus years experience and I know I'm good at what I do. The letters I got from the docs really made me feel good. Anyway here's my problem I know that I will not get a a good reference from my last employer and the agencies I have talked with so far have wanted two employer references from the last 5 years. I could provide limitless professional references from everywhere I have ever worked and they would be positive just not the last one and now all the other ones would be too ols anyway. Is there any hope that I will be able to travel? Do you have any advice for me. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, and welcome to the site! Glad you're with us.

I would say include some of the past employers anyhow. It doesn't matter, as that would give the prospective employer a better idea of your 'hireability'.

Hope you stop by often and keep us posted on how things go!

Right or wrong the firing really should not stop you from traveling or working at another facilty near the last one as long as the reason was not for something illegal or dangerous to a patient that has been reported to the police or board of nursing. The facility if asked at all will probably only state that yes you worked for them during a certain period of time. Nothing else. This particular facility freed up your future now its up to you to go forth and do good things. good luck.

I just wanted to say good luck and I hope you get to travel if that's your heart's desire. I'm not a travel nurse, Ijust found this site by accident but I hope it works out for you.

I agree with NavyJim most employers will only give dates of employment some will say whether or not they will hire you again. Think about it though if every person who ever got fired from a job was unhirable for all others we would have alot of unemployed people. If it makes you feel any better talk to human resources where you used to work or if you have it handy check out your employee policy manual that should tell you what the policy & procedure is for giving references.
Good luck finding your new job. Thats along time to work for someone & be let go.
