New to this . . . really!!

Miss Shellie here . . . Just turned 50, an artist (designed children's books for 15 years), husband left me, 2 girls, am starting over and after MUCH! deliberation decided that Nursing was the road. I just finished my first semester of Pre-req course and am on my way . . .
Several reasons: I really am fascinated with how the body works, health and healing, love helping people, and when I was sick for a few years, I could count on one hand the number of compassionate nurses I encountered and it made a HUGE! difference to me. . . Lastly, nurses have more bread and butter than artists; although, being an artist is where my heart truly is. Here's my concern: I really not the blood and guts type of girl and I tend to be way on the compassionate side. Yet, I still feel compelled to get past it a find a niche where I can help another human being--as opposed to sitting in front of a computer all day; It's hard to have a decent relationship with a computer!!!

Welcome, Miss Shellie. Congrats on getting started with prereq's and I think you might find many nurses have another "passion" in their heart in addition to, or besides nursing. I think it's wonderful to explore as many interests as possible to feed our intellect.

Do you have a physical reaction to blood and guts or just a general dislike? The dislike can be addressed, from my experience, by understanding you will be part of the health care team that makes it go away - well, at least that's the plan. The desire to help people is something we share and why not put a natural reaction to good use?

I''ll be graduating in a little over a year, so please contact me if I can help as you continue your prereq's and enter nursing school.

Welcome to the site!

You know, you can incorporate the artistic side of you with nursing: Rehab/therapy. I know, some blood and guts is inevitable, but we can help ya through it.

Hope to see you often!
