| Re: new member from michigan Hi Virgil, I am an RN in MI also, welcome to this forum. Maybe you could give me some advice please? (see my post posted Wed June 6th about Michigan RN being fired d/t medical condition) do you know anything about the rights of RN's in Michigan when they face termination from their employer? I am 40 yo, been an RN only 2 years, and just discovered I have Pernicious Anemia and a severe vitamin B12 deficiency (my levels are 128 when they should be 200-900) my nurse mgr wants me to resign or she will start termination because she says I have poor judgement, and am not learning my job quick enough.(explainable due to B12 deficiency) I don't want to resign because then I would not have chance to collect unemployment benefits. do you know anything about where RN's can go for help/advice when they face termination because of a medical condition that affects ability to concentrate, and learn new job?? what resources are available for MI RN's?? I see a lot of info for RN's who are impaired due to chemical dependency but nothing for helping RN's with a medical condition/impairment. thanks very much |

my advice is that you follow some chain of command or ask for the employee assistance program.also demonstrate to your manager you are seeking medical help, perhsps changing to part time for a period of time,do you work nights? that would also be a factor,if you do try to change to a day position for part time and give your body more rest time, and change to recuperate.good luck,

I was hired within a week of losing my hosp job at a homecare agency. If this does not work out I am quitting nursing period. In the meantime, I also researched the FMLA, and found out that the hospital violated my rights by not providing me with written notification within 2 business days that I was not eligible for LOA. I had asked for ONE WEEK medical leave(without pay of course) and they would not do it! so I am praying and expecting that I will be able to collect unemployment-especially since I lost my job due to a medical condition. thanks
