I'm a newbie!

I've been an L&D nurse for the past 11 years and would like to start traveling this summer. I will have an empty nest, so I thought it would be a great time to do something new. I'm a little afraid though... anyone out there have the same fear?

Re: I'm a newbie!

Welcome to the forums Sissy!

Lots of others out there that are trying traveling for the first time. Lots out there that would never even consider it.

Most people like to know who they are working with, where they are working and what to expect.

When you start traveling or working agency, a lot of that "security" and "familiarity" with your environment goes right out the window.

If this is you first time traveling, perhaps you might want to try working with a local agency first for a few months. Get a feel for going from facility to facility, unit to unit and self-orientation.

You can find more resources here: http://www.nursefriendly.com/traveler and of course in the forums there are literally thousands of discussions on travel nursing.

Sounds like the time is right for you to try it, now that kids are no longer an issue, you're free to spread your wings and fly where your fancy takes you

Try three months in hawaii, then three in las vegas, then whatever comes along.

Hope it works out for you, do post in the forums to let us know how it is working out for you. There are a lot of travelers online that can help you do things right the first time, rather than re-invent the wheel.

Best of luck!
