Hello Felicity, can you post the criteria you're talking about? That would help us help you.

Re: Help in finding job ......

Hi everyone,
I am new to this website. I am a registered nurse in MA, I recently got dismissed from my job of 5 yrs because of narcotic diversion. I have yet to hear from the BON of MA. My license is still current. I am about to lose my house becuase I have no income. I took a job working in outpatient oncology where I will not be working with narcotics. I feel I was set up. When I was called to a "meeting" I had no clue this was when I was going to be fired. I was never given the chance to bring a union rep with me. I had admitted to my supervisor that I had been in out-patient rehab problem, which will be 1 yr in in 8/09. I was started on Methadone and am in the process of being titrated and will be totally off in 6 wks. I have no desire to use ever again. This use started after a back injury and I was put on medication, I could not just stop the medication and began using because the withdrawal sx's did nto allow me to perform my duties at work. My supervisor showed me records of poor and carless documentation which I admitted to. They also found 2 PCA vials which were tampered with. off the record I told my supervisor that I was in rehab so of course thsi is going to look like narcotic diversion. Well she took that as an admission. It's my word against hers and what does she have to lose??I am hoping for the best. I have no desire to use ever again, this has totally turned my world upside down. I have a 13 year old to raise on my own. I need to get a job but where? with the restrictions placed there aren't too many people who feel for you or are willing to give you a chance. Anyone out there have any help for me? I am willing to go into the diversion program but I need to totally be off of Methadone before entering. Help me??

Re: Help in finding job ......

Definitely sounds like a difficult situation. Have you looked in working as a phlebotomist, medical assistant, hospital technician, etc something that you don't need a license for?

Know it would be a drastic pay cut from what you make as a nurse, but maybe it would get you by. There are lots of jobs in healthcare you can do without a license.

We have a section on the site devoted to issues like yours, you may find more help/information there:

Hope that is helpful to you.
