| hello My name is Angel and I am 22 yrs old. I'm not a nurse, but I have been looking into nursing schools for the last two weeks and I need some help or advice on how to go about getting started. Ultimately I really want to be a registered nurse and I would really like to work in the maternity ward, but I am having trouble finding information about what I need to do to achieve that. I'm so frustrated about the whole thing. I want to get registered for school but I want to make sure that I am registering for the right programs. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. If I am posting in the wrong forum I apologize. |

| Re: hello Hi and welcome! Call the school that you're interested in attending and talk to one of the counselors there. Most programs have waiting lists, but while you are waiting for the nursing classes you can take the Anatomy and Physiology, chemistry, and microbiology courses. You'll also take Human Development, psychology, or other supporting courses. I thought nursing school was fun. I hope you find what you're looking for.

 | Re: hello Angel, you've been given excellent suggestions. I'd like to add that you need to research the colleges in your area that have nursing programs, then go talk to them directly. They should be able to tell you exactly the courses you need, how long the wait, etc. At least, that is how I did back in 1994. Furthermore, see if the same college[s] offer a C.N.A. program. You might consider being a CNA while taking your prerequisites. Good luck!
