Greetings

Hi all! I'm not a nurse but found this site while looking on for info on the profession. I have worked in retail for almost 15 years & have wanted to work in the medical field since I was young but never did anything to pursue it. I have come to a point in my life that I feel is a crossroads & really feel the time is right for me to switch jobs. I am a single mother so being out of a job for a long time isn't an option for me. I am still gathering info, but am thinking of becoming an RN. I would have to first do Nursing Assistant since it's a requirement for admittance for LPN school. Then obviously LPN, at that point I would (hopefully) get a job as a LPN while continuing my education for a 2 year RN. Then get (hopefully) a RN job while going for my BSN. I know it's the very long, very slow road, but as I said I can't be without a job for too long & it offers the chance to keep moving up at whatever rate I feel most comfortable doing.

What suggestions would you all have to help me decide? Any books, questions I should be asking myself?

Re: Greetings

Welcome, mercurygirl! Nice to meet you. I am sure you you will come across some who say go straight for your RN, but....I did the LPN to RN route, also. Gave me quite a bit of experience.

Yes, you will have studying to do. Clinical is often in the morning; will your children be in school, and require any after-school care, however briefly? If there are any other questions, please ask!

Re: Greetings

She's 18 months so her schedule is pretty flexible, lol. If I had the ability I would go straight for the BSN, but well life often isn't as conducive to the easiest route as we'd like it to be.
