Good morning all....intro:

Just spent the night in triage; busy, then slow. Never know what you're gonna get. New company took over our institution, changes slowed down pretty much everything, no improvement in sight at this time, oh well. Me, I'm 50 y/o, worked in e.r.'s almost my entire life, since 14. Couldn't keep up the grades when young to get into med school, so at 38 decided to try for my RN so I could at least stay in the same field and make a living wage. Graduated at 41, went into open heart, then back to my love, the e.r. a few years later, and I'm still here. Why 'nightfly'? Well, I've worked predominantly nights, so it seems appropriate. And, I like it. I've always found that the night shift folks seem to be more of a 'family' than during the daytime; I don't know if it's because there are less of us around, but everyone always seems to be willing to help, rather than be a roadblock when it comes to getting things done. I joined this forum today because I had a few free moments between patients and took to the computer to see what other nurses were writing about.

Hi, nightfly! Nice to meet you. I work LTC, and our State surveyors just dropped in. It has been brutal, as we have the 'rough' team. I just got off work...over 14 hours, AGAIN! Like you said, never know what you'll get.

I've worked 11-7, also, and know what you mean about the 'family' bit. I hated sleeping during the day, though.

Hope you drop by often.....I try to start a Daily Thread, but have been known to forget on occasion.

'Cat'
