Wanting to go to Tampa, Florida

Wanting to go to Tampa, Florida. Anyone have advice on what hospitals to avoid, or ones they enjoyed. Also if anyone knows general rates in Florida--staff or travel, I would deeply appreciate it

I know nothing of the hospitals in Tampa.. But I have heard the the rates are less than $30 and every nurse I know is worth much more than that.

Not sure about Tampa. I've recently called area hospitals here in Pensacola (and some in Mobile, AL) to get an idea of what they pay new graduates. It varied from $20.50/hour up to $24. This seems relatively low, but I really enjoy living in FL.

Re: Wanting to go to Tampa, Florida

I have never made less that $35 and this way I can work an assignment and then go vacation to FLA. I can tell you that working 40 hours or more a week doesn't really leave much time for real fun. A day or two here or there is not my idea of a great time.. Maybe you will get a great schedule with lots of days off etc...

Good Luck

There are so many great places to see in this country that you might be surprised that FLA might not hold such a lure.

Where do nurses make $35 an hour? I guess I have been around South Florida too long. No one here makes anything like that.

Re: Wanting to go to Tampa, Florida

Heheheh.. Most any place besides FLA... Sorry.. I have been making $35 for 2 years now. I actually made $37 in NV and don't forget OT after 8 hours and DT after 12 hours in Cali.. Swwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet money.

I am a chronic hemodialysis nurse but I know many other specialities are making this kind of money to.. I actually got offered $30 for Hawaii and that is high for HI..

You have heard that there is a nursing shortage haven't you.. I got $35 in NC for 6 months. It's out there ..Don't settle.. My fav retort is, "Let 'em sit".

I am a registered nurse. I am in demand. Enough said.

Kristy,
I am from Pensacola also (currently in Albuquerque on a travel assignment). That is the going rate for the area. Actually, the rates you quoated sound more like the PRN rates. I know a couple of years ago for a new nurse, the rates started about $17/hr. I still work at Sacred Heart when I am home. IF you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Re: Wanting to go to Tampa, Florida

Not to many hospitals in that area use travelers. I have heard Tampa General is a good place to work for staff. I have also heard Community Hospital is the worst place to work. I did a travel assignment at Morton Plant (in Clearwater) a year ago and loved it. I do know they use travelers but have cut way back on them. I also know Bayfront in St Pete uses travelers. I have heard both good and bad about that one. Nice area though. LOVED it when I was there. Have been looking off and on for the last year but haven't found anything worth taking there (in the way of a travel assignment).

I'm also a dialysis nurse with many years of both acute and chronic experience, may I ask which company you work for and how do you get to make so much/hour?
Thanks

Davita travel offered me $30 and I asked the guy if he thought nurses making $30 in Cali with OT after 8 hours and DT after 12 hours would go anywhere else in the country for straight $30/hr. I told him I make $35 on the open market and he upped the ante to $34.. I don't know if he had the authority or not..LOLLL I shoulda told him I made $40..LOLL Actually, I have an auction on another site for $38 and I got some bites on that..
