walking out on an assignment

Hi
Has anyone had to walk out of an assignment? I am with Cross country sub division, nova pro and they are really great but cant really do much to change the situations i am dealing with on a daily basis at a horrible hospital! I work in peds and some nights it really breaks my heart to see what goes on and then lets not even get into the unsafe nights I have and such.
What happens if you say, Im walking out? Im only 4 weeks into the 13 week assignment.
Thanks

Re: walking out on an assignment

Tami,
DON'T walk out, you could be found guilty of patient abandonment. Call the company and tell them you are not completing the assignment then don't go back. I would try to give as much notice as possible, like calling the company on Friday when you're scheduled to work on a Monday. You may not be able to work with that company again, it's hard to say not knowing all the details of the situation. Good luck.

Re: walking out on an assignment

I would not advise breaking the contract unless you want to be thousands of dollars in debt and have not place to work. Have you tried to contact a liason ( does your company have one) they may be able to help you thru this transition period. What about the DON of the facility??? have you tried to voice your concerns with her??? I would advise you not to walk out. Remember you are there for the patients and they need you. I have worked an assignment also that I wanted to leave, but I remembered I was a good nurse and took excellent care of my patients. DO the best you can in a bad situation and remember there are other places to go after this one.
