I have been a nurse for 13 years, my kids are grown and out of the house, and I am seriously considering trying out the travel nursing road; I have always enjoyed seeing new places/ways of life, and really enjoy it much more when I can stay long enough to 'get to know the place'. I just don't really know anyone in this field, and would really like to hear some of the pros and cons firsthand, before making a decision. Thanks for your input!

Re: travel nursing good idea? Hi, I will be watching this posting. I am also a nurse with 13 years of experience with family grown and out of the house. My husband will be able to take early retirement next year and we love to travel to new places, also. We have started the "plan"! We purchased a 5th wheel RV and I have decided to go parttime at my hospital and have signed on with an agency to try per deim shifts. I may try traveling in my state first and then next year start traveling to places we have dreamed of visiting. I am excited, but a little scared to leave the security of where I have worked for 13 years. I have been reading the forums and have gained a lot of great info. Good luck for you and look forward to hearing about your plans.

Re: travel nursing good idea? I have been doing it for almost four years and wouldn't trade it for the world!!! I take a contract for 13 weeks, and if I like the hospital and they like me, we stay for another 13 weeks or so. There has only been ONE that I have not renewed, and I still get around quite well. I've been from Mississippi to Iowa and from California to Florida. Can't think of any drawbacks for me... I'm having too much fun!
