| Travel Nursing Book Is Finalist For Best Books of 2005 “Highway Hypodermics: Your Road Map To Travel Nursing” by Epstein LaRue, RN, BS, has recently been named as a finalist in the USABookNew’s Best Books of 2005 in the career category. The estimated need for new nurses will be over one million by the year 2010. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in the year 2000, the nursing shortage in the United States will continue to grow with an estimated twenty percent increase in the demand for nurses needed in our nation’s health care system by the year 2020. As a result of the vast nursing shortage, seventy-five percent of all current hospitals have vacancies for registered nurses. This number is directly proportional to the need for the travel nurse. As the patient numbers increase, so does the need for quality nurses to take care of those patients. The law of supply and demand affects nurses’ salaries and travel nurses rank at the top of the scale. The minute Epstein started thinking about travel nursing; she started gathering information for this book. Now Epstein is sharing the wealth of information that she gathered with other nurses who are thinking about going into travel nursing, and for those nurses who are currently traveling, but wondering where to go next and who can give them the best deal. This book includes the following chapters: An Introduction To Travel Nursing, The Rewards And The Drawback Of Travel Nursing, Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Travel Nurse, Getting Your Resume Polished, Understanding The Structure Of The Travel Company, Critical Elements In Choosing A Travel Company, Choosing The Location And Hospital, Your Contract With The Hospital, Preparing For Take Off, When The Times Get Tough, Working Strikes, My First Travel Nursing Assignment Journal, Stories From Other Travel Nurses, Hospitals, Destinations, and Travel Company Profiles.
